Life’s a pitch!
The Future Business delivers innovative and high impact enterprise challenge days for KS3-5 students and inset days for teachers.
Over the years we have worked with over 10,000 secondary school students and are passionate about broadening education beyond the classroom. Our presenters are all highly qualified consultants and business professionals who, when not delivering programmes in schools, work with major corporations and educational bodies like Microsoft and the Universities of Reading and Southampton, teaching management and marketing skills.
FOUR great learning experiences.
All our events cover four key learning experiences:
1. Enterprise – our events are designed to teach students practical business skills in line with the Gatsby benchmarks.
2. Confidence and presentation skills – students are given professional training in presentation skills, improving confidence and self-belief are vital elements in making the transition from education into business.
3. Teamwork and creativity – students work together in non-friendship teams. Each task is designed to promote teamwork and draw out a range of new skills, giving every student a chance to shine.
4. Learning by doing – students are treated as business professionals, undertaking a range of challenges to give practical application to their enterprise skills.
Simple to organise
Our events can be organised in three simple steps:
Let us know the event date and the number and year group of the students taking part.
Book the relevant school venue and split the students into non-friendship groups of 8.
On the day, we take care of everything. The Future Business team will arrive in plenty of time to set up. We bring our own materials, will fit around your timetable and can work with a whole year group at a time.
Life’s a Pitch
This challenge simulates the experience of working in a marketing agency at one of the most exciting times – when pitching for a major piece of new business. Life’s a Pitch is an enterprise challenge led by business professionals, where students find themselves running their own marketing agencies and pitching for a real-life account! This interactive event brings a genuine business experience into schools. Developed by a former advertising agency MD and consultant to many marketing agencies, with input from many teachers, it has cross curricular links with Enterprise, Citizenship, English and Business Studies. The day can be successfully run for Year 7 to 13 students as the structure is modified for different age groups and ability levels.
Event overview
What happens in a marketing agency?
The presenters provide an insight into the marketing industry and test the students’ knowledge in a game-show quiz. After a team building activity, students then set up their own marketing agencies.
Meet the brand
Students are introduced to the product they’ll be marketing. This will be a real product that will resonate with a group of young people. In the past we have worked with brands from the gaming world, active sports and soft drinks. The students will receive a video brief from a brand spokesperson, their client for the day, and they will outline their requirements and set the students’ core mission for the day.
Plan marketing campaign
Marketing specialists give presentations on the core missions and the students are set a task to complete for each one:
1. Advertising
2. Digital marketing
3. Events and sponsorship
Presentation skills
Students are trained on presentation skills, covering body language, voice work and confidence. They practice their pitches with expert help and a timed dress rehearsal.
Live Pitch
The marketing agencies compete head-to-head in the live pitch, in front of a panel of judges and their peers, to see which agency will take home the Grand Prize and who’ll be crowned the Best Individual Presenter!
